Fuse
New-Classical
International Day Stage
March 15 // 1:00pm — 1:40pm
With their bold approach to string music and exciting stage presence, Fuse is a one-to-watch formation on the cutting edge of Dutch musical life. The Amsterdam-based sextet performed over 1000 shows at a wide range of concert halls and festivals in The Netherlands and abroad. Utilizing their signature line-up (a string quartet with double bass and drums) the six musicians are able to evolve from their classical and jazz roots, and bring a unique sound and style to the stage. Both improvised and written music are organically part of the band's energetic live sets; technically complex but catching crossover performances.
Ir Sais
Reggaeton / Zouk
Empire Control Room
March 15 // 11:20pm — 11:50pm
Ir Sais is the artistic moniker of Irgwin Placido Sluis, born on the Caribbean island of Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles. His father died when Irgwin was just 1 year old. At 11, he began playing drums on tin cans. Completely self-taught, Ir Sais now masters several instruments as well as the production side. After getting his first taste of success with local Bonaire bands, he moved to the Netherlands in 2008, launching a solo career with original material that fuses pop with the Caribbean zouk rhythm.
Iguana Death Cult
Garage Punk / Psychedelia
Seven Grand
March 16 // 1:00am — 1:50am
Rotterdam-based fivesome Iguana Death Cult initially made their mark with giddy, hard-hitting garage punk and a miasma of acid-drenched psychedelics, only to blossom into an all-embracing unit that implements frameworks of post-punk, krautrock, new wave, soul and disco. The band’s sophomore album Nude Casino, which came out October 25, 2019 on LA imprint Innovative Leisure (who signed them after seeing them at SXSW 2019), holds aloft a more cerebral and absurdist side of their songwriting.
Enjoy SXSW!
